General Motors LLC recently advised National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of a problem with air bags in some of its cars that may prevent deployment of the air bags in the event of a crash.
As recently as October 2012, General Motors determined that certain model year 2012 Buick Verano , Chevrolet Cruze and Sonic cars are defective. These cars are rendered defective due to improper assembly of the air bag systems. The shorting bar inside the dual stage driver’s air bag can contact the primary stage air bag terminals. If that occurs in the event of a crash, the air bag will not deploy.
If you own one these defective lemons, then you should immediately contact General Motors at 1 (800) 521-7300, or NHTSA at 1 (888) 327-4236 (TTY 1 (800) 424-9153). You can reference NHTSA Campaign Number 13v-023. This is a serious condition. Don’t delay.
