What does the California Lemon Law Cover?

• Pay for the consumers’ attorney’s fees and costs
• Provide adequate repair facilities in California

• Offer the consumer a replacement or a refund (buy back) minus any trouble-free use value
• Ensure repairs do not take longer than 30 days

If the manufacturer of a vehicle that has a warranty is not able to repair the vehicle after a reasonable number of repair attempts, then it must buy back or replace the vehicle.  It must also pay the consumer’s incidental and consequential damages as well as the consumer’s attorney’s fees and costs. Reasonable number of attempts may be understood in several ways.  It typically varies and depends on the seriousness of the defect. Safety defects on a vehicle typically require fewer repair attempts than non-safety related defects.
